Case Study: Leonard Cheshire

Leonard Cheshire

The Client:

Leonard Cheshire supports disabled people through local care services, residential homes, supported living, domiciliary support, day services, activity centres, respite care, transition services, and employment and skills support. It also runs political campaigns on issues affecting disabled people.

We Got Involved Because:

Leonard Cheshire approached us to be their Welsh design studio following a referral from another client… and we wouldn't have got it without being welsh speaking (and great at our jobs), as their marketing is delivered bilingually throughout Wales.

“You’re the best, thank you so much. Totally understand the working at 1 million MPH. super appreciate it!”

A Bilingual Brand for Everyone

When we were first hired for Leonard Cheshire in Spring 2019, we were invited to a Brand Awareness Session with the marketing team from Leonard Cheshire. The aim of the day was to ensure that we fully understood the brand, its ethos, tone-of-voice and design styles. The day centred around the new Leonard Cheshire Brand Guidelines document, but as we were going to be required to deliver bilingual (Welsh & English) design, we asked "Where are the bilingual brand guidelines?"

It turned out that there weren't any, and with our experience of both branding and bilingual design, we were tasked with developing 'A Bilingual Brand for Everyone' - a new brand guidelines document, specifically for Leonard Cheshire Cymru. As with previous bilingual design work, our main point of reference was the Welsh Language Commisioner's Bilingual Design Guilde.

[As a result of this work, Rhys was invited to deliver a 'Bilingual Graphic Design' lecture for Graphic Design students at Cardiff Metropolitan University']

In just under a year (since we were recruited) we have completed about 20 projects for Leonard Cheshire (and Leonard Cheshire Cymru). There's far too much to show, but here's a selection of our work.

Bilingual Design

Webber Design's MD Rhys is a fluent welsh speaker, and this allows us to compete for and deliver bilingual graphic and web design work. We do two types of job for Leonard Cheshire:

  • Bespoke bilingual graphic design — designing print marketing materials for Leonard Cheshire Cymru.
  • Translation design — producing the Welsh language versions of materials designed in-house at Leonard Cheshire in London.
